Storytelling is an important part of design in order to get a message across with emotion. This project allowed me to explore an issue I am passionate about: California Wildfire Impact on Rural Homes. In this topic, I sought to make the information more accessible to community members through large roadside signs, informational giveaways, and an interactive website.

California is ravaged annually by deadly wildfires that can happen any month of the year. While there is a lot of information available to homeowners, it is not all well designed or presented so that it can seem overwhelming and confusing. The goal here was to provide simple information to homeowners about how to prepare their houses for wildfires. I focused on easy concrete actions viewers could take through large bold numbers to get the message across from far away, and quickly. Additionally, detailed line drawings provide a visual explanation to support those numbers without excess text on the signs or website. In the whole visual system, I utilized bright colors related to fire, such as red, yellow, and black, to draw attention. I also maintained a very direct and official approach to the graphics and style to give authority and importance to the subject matter and its severity.
